Thought I'd post here, so us Mililanians can debate the issue between ourselves. I love football, so I like UH football by default. Notice I didn't say I love UH football. That's because I think it has gotten way out of control with all of this hoopla over a "perfect season". Like all Hawaii people I hope they do well and represent the our state pridefully. I don't have a problem with the recnt landslide of public support they've gotten from fans. But c'mon, we really did not beat anyone of note .. not Boise, Fresno, Washington, or whomever. Sadly, only an educated football fan would realize this. And then there's this thing with the "June Jones has done so much for the state!" sentiment. He has? He coached a bunch of 20 somethings to 12 wins over marginal teams in 4 months. How has that "done so much for the state!"? My property taxes and gas prices are still ridiculously high, the homeless issue remains largely unsolved, more drunk drivers are killing themselves and others, our Mayor is putting us and our kids in debt for decades with rail, and on and on and on! Those are important issues, not football. I must add that this other notion that he understands local culture has to be a fairly recent phenomenon. I found him to be insultingly condescending to local folks, both through the media and in personal business experiences with him. Herman Frazier is a whole other bowl of saimin, but I digress. They can up Jones' salary all they want ... as long as I don't have to pay for it. The point I'm trying to make is to just keep UH football and whether Jones leaves UH in perspective, that's all. In the end, it's JUST FOOTBALL people!!!!!
