ALWAYS be aware of what's happening on your street, either during the day or night. It helps to have someone around during the day (like I am) who works the swing shift. I leave my vertical blinds partially open at night so I can see the outside of the window.
It may be paranoia...but approx. 2 weeks ago on a weekday, I noticed an SUV drive through my cul-de-sac, turn around, and drive away. What got my attention was that there was 4-5 guys (male) in the SUV. I was outside cleaning my garage out and took notice of the event, but not the specifics (license plate, etc).
Window locks are a good device that may slow the advancement of a burglar. More later.
