Posted by charles USA When I went to see him yesterday afternoon, the difference was night and day. While I'm using cliches, I will quote the doctor as saying that Dave is "improving by leaps and bounds." He was able to speak more clearly, and to hi mother's relief, his vocabulary has grown beyond the choice string of epithets he'd been employing. He will probably have to go throught speech therapy on release. Thankfully, a good friend, is a speech therapist, which will be helpful. The doctor also said that the affected area of Dave's brain does not include the portion that deals with anger. A "Smith" family friend endured an injury which impacted that area and was enraged for three years, so at least Dave won't have to deal with that. He should be out of the hospital pretty soon. Word was that it would be yesterday. Yesterday, the word was that it'd be today, so, we'll see. As for the person or persons responsible, there are leads here and there and the attack does seem to be a part of a pattern, but I personally have heard no news. If this is part of a string of similar attacks, Dave is fortunate to be alive. We can all hope the police turn up a suspect through the credit and gas cards. By the way, he doesn't recall many of the early visitors, but he certainly appreciated seeing the notes and cards (and stuffed bunnies and vibrating sushi) and people who came to see him. Once he is released, I'll post here. That's all for now. Ed and more recentally... Yesterday, Dave was discharged. He is now on his very own couch watching a WWII flick on his very own teevee. Once again, he's even better than he was when we saw him yesterday. I am sure he'll be amused when his mother tells him about the prayers and chants being performed on his behalf from a variety of faiths. He already knows how supportive those of us in the State Net/rock n roll set have been and appreciates the kind thoughts. Now, as before, it's a game of wait-and-see. Still, things are looking up. If anyone has questions, please ask. Also, as usual, if I've missed anyone, please forward this around.
