Posted by Julia It'd be interesting if you were to do this for films also, eg - In the recent TNT production of 'The Mists of Avalon', the approach of the lady of Avalon to the sacred isle, and the depiction of the isle itself (with the temples carved into the cliffs), must have been inspired by Arnold Bocklin's 'The Isle of the Dead': http://www.artmagick.com/paintings/painting132.asp - Hitchcock and Symbolist art. There's an exhibition in Paris that relates Hitchcock's films to Symbolist and Pre-Raphaelite art:

This is a great idea - I look forward to seeing the end results of this project.
- Henry Fuseli's 'The Nightmare' crops up in Ken Russell's film 'Gothic' about Byron and the Shelleys. Interestingly, Fuseli and Mary Shelley's mother (Mary Wollstonecraft) were platonically entangled for a while: http://www.uh.edu/engines/epi462.htm
eg according to the exhibition, the film 'Vertigo' drew visual inspiration from such paintings as Rossetti's 'Proserpine', drawings by Alberto Martini, Millais' 'Ophelia', William Degouve de Nuncque's 'The Leprous Forest'
