You first step is going to be educating the staff and kitchen. I have done a lot of this at my current facility. For crying out loud, they had NO idea what a FEEs was. I first started with educating the administration. Then I moved to nursing and then the kitchen staff. I struggle at my facility because they refuse to get pre-packaged thickner. I printed a significant amount of handouts for staff and kitchen. I also demonstrated and gave examples as to what each consistency would look like. I even gave them quiz such as, "If a person is on thicken liquids should they have ice cream?" It was kind of a fun game with the staff.
Overtime, you will see them asking you for help. Most of the time, staff does not know. Will you come across some that do not care. Absolutely !!!! But education is a huge part of our role. Hope this helps !!!!
