Posted by Burrow on February 1, 2007, 12:24 pm, in reply to "Re: Fundraiser cancelled" I do know this...a strong football program will definitely help recruiting for baseball; simply because it is an important part of a college student's experience. In fact, hurrying up getting that new athletics center built for basketball and volleball will also provide a boost. UTA is no longer a commuter school if you haven't noticed. There are around 10,000 students living on or right near the campus. So the stronger our overall athletics program is, the better it will be for each team. Sam's heart is in the right place and he is fiery in his determination and I respect him for that so I'll let him post every once in a while even though it isn't baseball. My question to all of you out there is this: If the club team hits the field would that help or hurt recruiting for baseball and other sports? Would prospective athletes see it as a joke or as a refusal on the school's part to field a team? As I said before, a strong program will help us, but would a club team help, hurt, or do nothing? Would love to hear somebody else's take... --Previous Message--

Sam's ok. He's doing his best to generate interest in football for UTA by starting a club which is a very difficult thing to do. The thing is, there actually is a strong movement out there from alums and others (completely separate from what Sam is doing) to get football going again for UTA so I don't know if his club will help in that cause or not. At first I thought it could but now I'm not so sure.
