Three men are travelling and stop at a motel for the night. The manager tells them he has only one room left and it costs thirty dollars for the night. Each of the three give him ten dollars and go to their room. After they've left, the manager realizes that the room he gave them only costs twenty-five dollars and goes to the room to return the remaining five dollars. The men decide rather than try to divide five by three, that they'll each take a dollar and tip the manager the remaining two dollars. Since they each gave ten dollars, and received back a dollar each, they've each spent nine dollars on the room. Three times nine equals twenty-seven, plus the two dollar tip equals twenty-nine. What happened to the other dollar?
