We use a couple of 80-160 gig USB2 drives at my work as well as a few others out at places we've sold to for use in backup systems. They've worked on the whole VERY well. They seem to be quite fast. It's definately nice to have such a portable drive... also nice to be able to, say, use it with a desktop computer and then do portable work with a laptop. The only thing I would worry about specifically when it comes to video would be the amount of data moving across the PCI bus when you're using both a PCI RT.X100 or RT2x00 as well as a PCI USB2.0 card. I think it would be different for integrated USB2.0 systems, but perhaps not. You may end up with difficulties with that, especially when reading from multiple streams at the same time. I think I would borrow one and run the Matrox speed diagnostics on it to make sure that it's capable enough. Cheers! --Previous Message--

Hi there!
Matt
: One of my 2 40 gig drives just died,
: and I need to replace it. A friend
: suggested a USB 2 drive. Are they
: fast enough to support video work?
