Posted by Dayspring On one hand, I agree with what you're saying. Certainly, if somebody started selling RT.X10s as RT.X100s because they were able to 'hack' it as such, that would be wrong. On the other hand, if somehow (theoretically) you were able to take hardware that you now own and alter it in order to make it run differently, is that inherently wrong? I'm only looking at this from the hardware point of view, rather than the software. The software is licensed, but the hardware is owned outright by the purchaser. As an example, do you remember the Promise Ultra ATA66 controller cards that were 'hackable' into an Ultra ATA66 RAID simply by doing a tiny bit of creative soldering and performing a BIOS update? The BIOS was freely available on the website, and the hardware is wholly owned by you. So was that wrong? I don't know. I had an Ultra66 card and never did it because I didn't need the RAID stuff, but I always thought it was cool to know that I COULD do it. I think if the hack was purely a hack involving your own hardware and you weren't reselling it as something that it was not, and the software is freely available, that it shouldn't be considered piracy. But you're definately correct on the warranty voiding part. I wouldn't solder something onto my card, have it get screwed up, and then expect Matrox or Promise or anybody else to fix it for me. My $0.02USD. Cheers, --Previous Message--

Hrm.... I'm of two minds on this...

: Not a good idea to openly request this,
: any type of modification to your card
: voids its waranty. This is a form of
: hardware piracy - If you really NEED
: RTx100 functionality, then you are
: making money out of it, the least you
: can do is pay for it ! You can't get
: what RTx100 EXtreme Pro users are
: getting for free.
: And plus, sorry, it is not possible
: anyway, I also wish I could convert
: my Rt2500 to a RTx100 but
: unfortunately I am happy (to some
: extent) with what I have.

: Hi there!
: I seriously doubt that this can be
: done. To my knowledge, there is a
: bit of a hardware difference between
: the RT.X100 and the RT.X10. So I
: don't think a software upgrade will
: give you what you're looking for.
: Cheers!
