boris red and after effects

I just read the review of After Effects 6 in a video mag and it mentions
competitors like Commotion and Combustion.
Why is there no mention of Boris Red? Is this not a similar program to After
Effects?
I'm not familiar with it but I thought that it was a viable alternative to
After Effects Pro.
Can anyone please comment on the similarities or important differences
between AE and Red?
