I have a possible lineage to the Melungeon People through my great grandfather. I do not have any records other than he was supposed to have been full blood Cherokee and was said to have been adopted by the Knight Family of Eastern Tennessee. He would have been born possibly around the 1880 time frame or within a 5-10 yr time frame. His name was James E. Knight. He was to have been adopted by the Knights and then said to have ran away from home when he was a teenager. He married his wife, my great grandmother, here in Texas and resided here till his death. I am primarily interested in finding lineage back to the Melungeons or to my Cherokee Roots. I believe the best way to find what I am searching for is to find someone in the Knight family who has knowlege of my great grandfather James E. Knight.
