By the owner- My Dad & I were shopping Black Friday when I got a call from a guy who lives in this area. He said that just the day before he saw a guy riding a horse, on his road, that looked like mine. He'd seen the flyers and has that gift of being able to distinguish 1 brown quarter horse from another. Well, he thought that it was odd that the guy was riding a horse since he just got out of jail 1-2 weeks ago (for stealing tack and other horse equipment) and he cannot afford horse ownership/purchase. He gave me directions to the guys house. I called Troop 3 and asked for the original officer who took my complaint. They told me she'd be in Monday, to call back! NO WAY was I gonna call back Monday. He said he didn't have anyone that could come out. So I said, "who do I have to call, Camden? Or, ride out there myself? What do I have to do?" So he replied by telling me to come in to Troop 3 and then hung up on me!! I could not believe it. I understand they are probably short staffed and busy on Black Friday, but he could have been a tad more empathetic. So, I left Target and drove straight to the station. We waited about 20 mins and then the door opened. Officer McGuire, who owns horses too, got my story, the directions, the guys name (which made her smirk - guess she knew who he was), and my case #. She then pulled the report and off we went. When we got there, she asked that I wait around the corner so the guy would not know who I was or what my vehicle looked like in case he wanted to retaliate. After several minutes, she drove back up the lane and advised me that there were no horses there, not even "horse s#!^". But, she did say that the guy told her that there were horses next door. Next stop - next door. The officer approached the house and after several minutes she walked to the end of the driveway and waved me out of my truck. "I found your horse!", she exclaimed. I hopped out of the truck, ran across the road, and gave her a BIG HUG!! Of course, I still wanted to look at the horse to make sure it was her. The elderly lady who had her said that she went out to feed her other horses the day before Thanksgiving to find another mouth to feed. She was like, "who are you?" She even asked her husband if he'd gotten her another horse. She said, the next day, the horse was gone. Then, she reappeared and the suspect approached her saying that he'd "found" the horse. He asked if he could keep it at her place & he could not find the owner, he wished to buy Savannah from her (???). The lady said that she is afraid of the guy, so she just agreed to let him keep Savannah there. I called my husband, Jeff, and had him hook up the trailer. I was gonna need it to bring my horse home!! By the time I got back to pick Savannah up, the officer was gone - so I'm not sure if they are pressing charges or what the status is in this case. I called her today to find out, she was not there. I WILL be pressing charges if it is recommended (not sure if there is a case since he claims to have found her and since she was not in his possession). Many thanks to the informant, my friend (who put me in touch with the informant), to Officer McGuire, to all my friends who have lent their support, and to all those people who have never met me in the horse community who called and emailed their friends about Savannah. Thanks for everyone's suggestions and for search parties, posting flyers, and for spreading the word. The barn is now watched over by video and all my gates are padlocked. I never thought horse thieves were still common, much less that something like this could ever happen to me. I can't believe how lucky I am to have her back!!!
