yesterday at corners

all 20 outfield players were in our 18 yard box, thats not good, leave one or two of our players on the half way line, takes 2 or 3 maybe 4 of theirs out of our penalty area and gives us an out ball. obvious.
Correct and leaves big spaces for 6ft 6inch centre halves a free run at a header at goal.

Several managers over the years have been asked about this at Meet the Manager evenings and they all say that keeping everyone back gives you a better chance of defending a corner. No idea whether they are right but the managers all seem to agree on it.
yes but no out ball, get clark on the half way line. clear the ball to him and the oppo will have two on him, if he gets it he will worry their defenders
Just repeating what various managers have said when asked that question.
I agree with you although I would say Chong rather than Clark. His speed would worry them more and probably lead to an extra player staying back than for Clark.
Maybe they are following the coaching manual statistics? Maybe by putting two on the half way line it would bring three of the opposition players out. But it would also mean, with five out of the box, there would be more gaps to shoot through. Personally I would trust the keeper and defence. But then it is not my livelihood.
Sometimes are defenders seem to get in each other's way so having someone stay forward might actually make the marking simpler on corners But as has been said it's the current tactic book thinking to have everyone back and has been for years, though I wonder if statistics back it up
