    Fao: Mike in Ireland

In your neck of the woods atm.
Went for brunch @ Yeats inn before visiting my family farm which is just of the N17 ( hagfield). We then went to see my great grandparents grave @ Temple cemetery and I met my cousin Philip who is the son of Phaliam who you knew.Bit awkward as my uncle ( the one who lives @ Hagfield) had fell out with his brother (bloody families) so doesn’t talk to Philip. Tbh it was a bit like a scene from Clarksons farm(Gerald) as I couldn’t understand much of what he said.
I can see why you like it….its stunning countryside and the people are very welcoming.
We are staying near Westport at the foot of Croagh Patrick and I am looking out at the Atlantic Way…it’s truly beautiful.
Parknrun @ Westport this morning then off to Galway and going to Matt Molloys this evening ( my Mum loves the Chieftains).
Any suggestions as heading back to Charlestown tomorrow ?

Sounds like you have the bug. It got me a long while ago. Played my bodhran with Matt Molloy in Murrays Charlestown a few years ago. Good bloke. Stood his round. The pub will be packed. Look out for Joe McNulty . Fiddle player and bodhran player that always encouraged me. Not much happening in Charlestown on Sunday but you might find a session in Horkans in Swinford tomorrow afternoon. Unfortunately you will miss out on John Finans of the Gallagher brothers fame. His wife is not well and only really opens friday and saturday nights. Phelim drank in there as do I. Best Guinnesss in the country. Enjoy the rest of your trip. If you are still here I will be playing on Monday Tuesday and Wedneday nights locally. All the best

Just got back - we didn’t make it to Galway as kept stopping. I have travelled down highway 1 and it’s not a patch on the Atlantic way …absolutely stunning.
Would love to come back in the Summer and cycle it…..it’s beautiful we as far as Clifden.
I am on an early flight Monday Morning for work but will definitely come back. Thanks for the heads up and looking forward to Molloys tonight.
Will tell my Mum you have mixed it with her superstar !! 😊

You need a month next time. Tell her that they are reforming The Bothy Band. He was an original member. Chieftains are nearly all gone now.

Will do …she has had the best time. Matt Molloys was to busy for Mum ( full of diamonds day trippers 😂 so we went to MJ Hobans. It was fantastic…probably 8 musicians of all ages …random people popping in and singing ….” Rita & friends “ made us so welcome.
Had to drag Mum out at 12:30 , she didn’t stop smiling all night.
            Brilliant …definitely be back.
