Ron Baynham RIP

Very sad news ,he was the finest goalkeeper Luton ever had and I remember how he commanded his area and always claimed the ball at corners, something you rarely see today
RIP

He did indeed, sometimes as far from his line as the penalty spot. Rarely saw him punch the ball, his positioning and handling always impeccable.
Brave as a lion too, none of the sliding out feet first we see nowadays, down at the attackers feet, head first, hands on the ball, wonderful goalkeeper.
Don't recall him being beaten by the ball being put through his legs, something you see regularly in the modern game.

He played the day I first saw the Hatters back in 1962.He was already a legend by then He had a great leap & was brilliant at coming out for crosses from corners. One of my favourite Luton players of all time. RIP Ron.

A belated RIP from me.
First saw him play against Man U 1958 (not long after the Munich disaster).
Great goalie, and always quite a character (as were several other LTFC goalkeepers over the years).
The video on Hatters Heritage makes a fascinating and amusing watch. Recommended.

Our games against United in 1957/58 were both before Munich - Christmas Day (the last time we played on Christmas Day) and Boxing Day. Assuming that you saw him at KR the home game, the following season, wasn't until April 1959, more than a year after Munich, during a run of ten games in three weeks between 4 and 25 April.

Yes, what I remember all the above applies, eventhough I never saw his best days in Division 1 . My memories of him also include on those winter days how he would keep his hands warm, by heavy rubbing together and blowing in them or under his arm pits. Did he start wearing wool green gloves later in his career or was that Tony Read?
It seems he was the oldest surviving England international olayer
