    Our position

Posted by Cuba on 18/3/2024, 19:03:47

“Assuming” Everton get a deduction of between 2 and 6 points then surely it’s all to play for?

If fans were seriously hoping it was a bigger deduction for Forest and hoping that we directly benefit they have been particularly unrealistic.

We need to gather more points than both in the last nine games.

If people are unhappy about that then they really are just doubting our ability to do that.

We can’t expect any more favours, it’s in our hands.

If anyone had suggested in August that we would be outside the bottom three when we went to Tottenham then everyone would have taken that.

If we fail from this point it will be because we aren’t good enough.

Onwards and upwards and get as many fit as we can by the Bournemouth match.

In actual fact we only need to match Forest's points haul between now and the end of the season to stay up.

That doesn't take into account Forest's appeal.

No but that's an unknown, and many seem to feel the 4 points is set at a level to make an appeal likely to fail.

Know it all Derek on Facebook has said they will appeal and will win.

Maybe but I wouldn't want to rely on that logic - we need to be aiming to stay up "under our own steam" so that there is no option to relegate us after the season is over.

If fans were seriously hoping it was a bigger deduction for Forest

I think that most, including Forest fans, were expecting a six point deduction.

Maybe before Everton got their points back.

Since then it was between 2 and 5.

Certainly 4 is better than 2.

            It’s in our hands.

9 massive games and players to return at the critical point.

The notion that considered and deliberate cheating to the tune of something like forty million pounds (and the fcuking rest) can have the same impact (two points) over two seasons (76 games) as badly defending a corner in the 89th minute is utterly preposterous.

In fact, given we got a point and they lost two, you could argue that the slack marking was 75% of the way to the punishment given for industrial scale cheating.

Even after Everton got their points back, I think that most people expected Forest to get the same as Everton's reduced penalty. The commission in the Everton case said that six should be the minimum penalty (or words to that effect).
