sensible answers only please regarding Forest

Posted by Buzzard on 18/3/2024, 16:21:20

Does anyone know why they got 4, rather than 6 points?

I thought it was the same offence.

    Cheers

It seems, from another thread, that Forest, unlike Everton, fully cooperated and admitted the offence(s).
Two points back for that so it seems

But Everton seem to have had three points added for not cooperating - don't see how it can work both ways - that's a five point differential for cooperating.

I have seen suggestions that Everton's limit was £105m and Forest's was £61m so roughly two/thirds so pro-rata on the deduction.

Makes as much sense as any other explanation - i.e. none whatsoever.

I suppose that the amount of the excess might come into it.

There were rumours that they were "offered" a four point deduction on the condition that they don't appeal but time will tell whether they do or not.

Four points is what they have lost by poor defending in the last few minutes of their two games against us this season.

2 points removed for 'mitigation', which presumably means that Everton's 'double jeopardy' mitigation for their second charge will also be taken into consideration. Fully expect them to get less than 4 when they get their punishment. The 'minimum 6 points' thing in the first Everton report was total bollocks and only applied prior to mitigating factors.

          Maybe agreed not to appeal?

Bit like us, except our sword of Damocles was expulsion from the league and have to do an Aldershot or summat.

In all likelihood though it means that Forest get to stay up for consecutive seasons despite massive financial juicing - as below just look at their transfer fees and wages.

Difficult to put any kind of logic to it, but is it possibly because they're only being penalised for one season?

Pretty Sure the Everton -10 (less 4) was for just the one season - and had 'better' mitigating circumstances around Covid/new stadium.

Forest was just pure juicing, beyond blatant.

You might be right - was basing that on the below comment:

"Nottingham Forest was referred to an independent Commission on 15 January, following an admission by the club that it had breached the relevant PSR threshold of £61 million by £34.5 million. The threshold was lower than £105 million as the club spent two seasons of the assessment period in the EFL Championship.

So are they going to get points deducted by EFL for the other 2 seasons if they get relegated?

We need to wait until the report is published. I would though assume it's because they breached the limit by less.

Dunno if it's been verified but Sky are reporting that Forest's breach was higher than Everton's

That could well be true, but if it is I can't see why the deduction would be less. Perhaps it is because they agreed not to appeal, but the media is also reporting that they are expected to appeal. Also I think that would be a terrible reason to reduce a deduction.

Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Point deduction increased to 6 following frivolous appeal.

Exactly. That's the nub of the issue and the key question. Why is Forest's punishment more lenient?
