    Oak Road safe standing

Posted by Oak Roader on 18/3/2024, 11:12:46

Personally, not impressed. As are other season ticket holders that I sit near. It is very cramped in there now. Especially if you wish to get a drink or visit the toilet during the game, very tight to walk along the rows to the exit. And when you get to the exit there are people stood in the gangways blocking them.

The front two rows used to be where the old boys and young kids went who wanted to sit down. Now though they can’t, as the front two rows are now below the advertising boards, so if you sit down you can’t see anything! Where are these people supposed to relocate to?

The bar and toilets are also not big enough to take the extra 500/600 people that are now seated here.

Why couldn’t it be left as it was, with the installation of the new segregation and keep the old seats? If it anit broke don’t fix it 🤷

Given the club had to close the season ticket waiting list, then you can see that finding ways to add to the overall capacity helps other supporters to hopefully be able to attend games.

The nature of the stand and age of the ground is not ideal and maybe they are just working through some teething problems with the new safe standing. Learning those lessons is also a benefit ahead of at somepoint moving to PC.

If you’re not happy, you can contact the ticket office and move your seats

Not hugely keen on it, to be honest, preferred it as it was but I guess what you can get away with in Divs 3 and 4 is a bit different from today.

And it allows more people in to see games so that has to be a good thing.

Football really isn't for some people.
I dont know how you would have handled large crowds back in the 70's, when leaving the ground your feet never touched the floor.

New segregation is because it's allocated 'standing' - everyone has an allocated position, no?

When it was seating it was unallocated. Therefore you can only sell certain percentage of the seats (75%).

You couldn't have introduced the new segregation without giving everyone in there an allocated seat, not sure you could do that half way through the season given that everyone akready had an unallocated season ticket.

                  Safe standing. Big question mark

I support but what about children and the elderly who have to sit. Nothing done for them

I much prefer it to be honest. That said the bar and toilet area are a disgrace although I don't see what they can really do about tbh

When the novelty wears off next season and/or we're in the championship, you'll probably have a row to yourself.

Maybe next season, people who want to sit can relocate to other areas of the ground. I'm sure there will be people who would rather stand and would like to move to the Oak.

Where to? If you choose to sit in the Bobbers you’ll get soaked when it rains. Hardly ideal if you’re taking kids. Any available seat currently that isn’t a ST seat is either in F or G block or a shit view. Again hardly ideal for kids or older folk.

Why was it changed to safe standing? Why not leave the seats and add the new segregation? Were any oak Roaders actually asked if they wanted safe standing? I know I wasn’t!

People in other areas of ground who want to stand can move to Oak and then people in Oak who want to sit can take their ST's. quite simple.

There was a survey about safe standing sent to all season ticket holders

weren't all oak STHs sent communication by the club and asked for feedback?

There's been plenty of communication since it was announced, I can't say I recall being asked if I was in favour of safe standing or not though.

I much preferred unsafe standing but that ain't coming back .....

Back in the 80s the entire Oak Road was standing and therefore capacity was at least double it is now. Just make the most of it as we are in the Premier League and in future will have a new stadium with better facilities. It is what it is.
