    Ross Barkley - next season

Posted by Sandgrounder on 17/3/2024, 8:39:01

Does the fact that he’s not made the england squad (and presumably won’t be going to the euros) make him more likely to stay next season even if we go down? He might think that if his england career is over anyway he may as well stay where he is appreciated and enjoying his football. Rather than move somewhere else and perhaps not play as regularly?

He is the reason we are still in this.
Absolutely love him. He is such a class act. Southgate is a complete tool for not picking him due to going for that two faced f.ucker Henderson.

Southgate is the first England manager that has made England unwatchable for me. He is tactically inept and shows it once the games really count.

Nope,he’ll use it as a stepping stone to get into a a surviving Premier League team

Unfortunately I think that is right.
He's 30yo and it would be His last chance of a big money deal.

Exactly. People who think Barkley will stay with us in the Championship have no clue about football.

If expect at least half the squad will be looking at this as a stepping stone to a lower half premier team, or one of the promoted sides.

Barkley won't play in the Championship of course. Too good, and will have a relegation release clause I'm sure.

However I don't get this idea that there will be a mass exodus. Nearly all the first team are under contract I believe, but just being blunt none of them are established premier league players and if we go down at best another PL club might look at the potential they have after one season with a relegated side.

I'm sure there will be a few comings and goings like every season. But I'd expect a broadly stable team

I believe Pelly and Bell are on one year contracts. Osho is out of contract.

Lokonga and Kabore( both starters)are loans, so add in Barkley and that's already 6 likely to not be here.

Menghi and Adabayo are nailed on to get better offers if relegated. Not just Premier, but top end Championship.

It soon adds up to nearly a full first xi.

I really hope this isn't he case, but don't see how we will keep hold of those players. I expect most will feel have come as far as they can with Luton, and look for a new move.

Not sure if that's correct or not for Bell and Pelly, but I'm aware Osho is out of contract. They may well sign new ones though.

Agreed that Lokonga won't drop to the Championship if Arsenal allow him to leave. I think there's a chance Kabore could, but it's a fair assumption that he won't be with us next season.

Some players will get other offers, but we are going to be a top end Championship club in terms of revenue if we go down. There's a chance it would only be us, Burnley and Sheff Utd with parachute payments (although probably most likely 1 other, possibly 2). Unless Sheff Utd sort out their off field issues I doubt they will invest much on the playing side.

I don't want to be too naïve and players will rightly look after themselves, but I do genuinely think they like it here and would see a good opportunity for promotion next year. If we go down that is.

I really hope we hold on to players too. I think we are all over estimating how much of a big fish we will be next season.

I agree on Sheff United. However Burnley will be fabs for promotion. At least one of Leicester, Southampton and Leeds will be there too. Add in Norwich, WBA and there are five or six clubs with bigger funding already.

His contract is a of a mystery but reading between the lines if we go down he has the option of leaving on a free so he can get his best deal.

Not correct. His release contract is based on a bid over £5m which I would expect we would get and he would accept if we get relegated.

I also know someone in the industry but they never divulge contractual information, all seems rather unprofessional to me, assuming it's the truth of course

Oh well ….if it’s professionalism you are looking for then the person you know in the industry is probably not a football agent …it’s the truth.

As far as we know he has more than a year contract. So, unless there's a release clause in there in the event of relegation we'll get a fee. We would probably get a fair chunk too

Release cause that includes a free transfer being granted if we drop I mean. That might exist but I'd be surprised if it does
