What's the point of loaning out Giles?

Posted by Krakowian Hatter on 18/1/2024, 15:41:42

Lots of rumours around, and lots of them are speaking about loan deals.

Does the club think that if he stands out in the Championship again, it might recover some of his value?

Or would the club be thinking that he'd be a useful asset in the Championship (alongside the Reading lads) if we go down, and don't want to cut him free just yet? Maybe loan deals with a first refusal to buy if we stay in the Premier League are being floated?

I guess loaning him out might free aroud £500k on the books for the rest of the year, but would we ever find cover as good as him for that amount?

What makes you think Giles is on 20k a week?

I don’t know for certain but that sounds about right. If you are suggesting less then think you are wrong.

Is that how much he's on?

According to this BBC article when Giles signed, Wolves appear to have first dibs with a buy-back clause. So loaning him to Leeds or Cardiff may only be just that, a loan, unless Wolves rescind that option to buy. Provided the BBC article is correct, of course!

            Great points.

A few weeks ago Edwards said he didn't see him as a defender but a as a player that would be competing with the likes of Brown and Chong on the left in attack.

I think that if we can bring in a left footed CB and a RWB, which we really need, Bell becomes the cover for Doherty and Ogbene can then concentrate on competing for a position either on the left or right up front.

That doesn't give Giles many options and if he wants to be playing regularly maybe a loan is the best option.

We don't get every signing right - and yes, I agree, if he's playing well in a Leeds team promoted from the Championship it would help protect his value.

My thoughts exactly the same as Lutonian on this. I’d be happy to let Giles go if allowed us to get a RWB and CB in.

I’d also like an upgrade on Woodrow, but I imagine club will be happy with him as third choice striker when only playing one upfront. I can see him, Potts and Berry being happy just playing a squad role this season and not wanting to leave.

Midfield probably OK, assuming Lokonga isn’t injured again after missing Bolton replay. Anyway, trust in the recruitment team that has found us some gems!

                    RE's fault?
If so, let's sack him, eh? I mean, not much of a judge of players, is he? 😑

It was a change of tactics from us that has left Giles out of the side. We tried to play 2 up top at the start of the season and Giles played, he was bought into supply Elijah and Morris with the crosses and supply. We got beat and went one up top to more solid and Giles is not a great defender, so he was out and Alfie came in. I remember we signed Cmg but soon after we changed formation and he was out.

Isn’t Fred back? We don’t need Giles then. 😎
