    Tyrone Mings 26.5m!

Every now and then a transfer fee makes you spit out your coffee. Sometimes it's the incredible new records right at the top, Neymar for 200m etc, but sometimes it's stuff like this. An absolutely mediocre player going for what would have been a laughably astronomical fee just a year or two ago.

I'm surprised more Premiership clubs weren't in for Stacey in the end actually. From a selling point of view LTFC secured decent fees for our two full backs given the situation with their contracts etc, but from the perspective of a Premier League club our players are incredible value in this market.

If it was my money I'd pay 10m for Stacey before I parted with 26.5m for Mings.

Couldn't believe it at first. Cheating, dirty player who already has a few serious fouls/incident to his name. Probably spend half his career serving bans.

Not value for money when they're relegated.4m is a no risk sum for the likes of Bournemouth, if it works out good for them, if it doesn't no great loss.

The thing is Villa's turnover next season will probably be over 200m.

In that respect spending 20m on Mings isn't much different to when they spent 3m on players on a turnover of 30m in the late 1990s

Mings is not a mediocre player. He's a very good defender who played a massive part in getting Villa promoted.

Only injuries have held him back from already being an established PL player.

I fully understand 2020 selling but look at fees that championship players are moving for. Bristol City's defender went for 13.5m and a Brentford player rumoured to be moving for 12m. Imagine how much we could have got it we waited a year. Yes I know Stacey would have been out of contract! The transfer market is ludicrous. 20m is nothing

If we hadn't been promoted last year, these players and others would have left the club for much less.

But neither of ours were championship players. As in any championship experience.

If we could have kept them for another season we would certainly have got more money. But Jack wasn't going to sign an extension and the club wasn't prepared to hold JJ at ransom when such a great opportunity came his way after giving us 14 years of his life.

Indeed. One year left on is contract, the right number of millions of pound to provide stability to our club and its owners (and help toward power court and the planning side) and basically the best possible advert for young players to sign for us in the future.

What this says to the next young player wanting to make his mark is, join us, have a wonderful time winning football matches and then move upwards whilst the club makes itself financially sustainable. Making the club an easier sell to young talent is precisely what we need for the good of all parties.

The days of players not progressing are over and the days of star players leaving (upwards) and the money disappearing into the pockets and mortgages of spivs and chancers are over and I for one am delighted.

Or you could join Bristol City and play nil games and get sent out on loan to Newport because your agent thinks your too good for Luton.
