So article on news that smart meters do not allow transfer of supplier, meters not working throughout the country. I keep being pestered by supplier to fit one,do not understand how these things are gonna save the planet,

Introduced by Ed Miliband and so far has cost 12.5bn. I change supplier most years and the meter is rubbish as none of the smaller companies who provide the cheapest energy use them. Our elected representatives come up with daft ideas that cost us a fortune. They would be sacked in private enterprise for wasting shareholders money.

Could you possibly mention that at the C&R AGM please? They don't seem to have got that message there.

How on earth do you get Ed Miliband to be responsible for it? Last time I checked he was never prime minister or in a position to pass legislation!

He was Secretary of State for the Environment which introduced the compulsory policy. I can recall him introducing the legislation.

Where do you get the 'already cost 12.5billion' figure from?

He was the climate change secretary who introduced the scheme in 2009. It certainly has proved to be a dud, but I too question the figure quoted.

Peanuts to the sums the current government have wasted I guess.

Where do you get that 12.5 billion figure from? I'm not defending smart meters or denying theyve been a waste of money worthy of a Chris Grayling, but I've not seen that figure anywhere aside from a projection for universal adoption.

National Audit Office, many financial magazines such as This s Money and, Financial Times. Estimated cost to each household is apparently 420 per year. Figures are not made up.

As Question said that's the ballpark estimate for a full rollout not how much it has cost today as far as I can tell.

Exactly. The poster Jane wrote 'so far', which is clearly not the case.

I was actually going to complain about their TV advert claiming to save the planet and make the world a better place. They want us all to have one so they dont have to employ meter readers and get rid of jobs and make evn more money

They're not. Use your common sense to regulate the amount of fuel used, it's not rocket science.

Spot on. Became slightly OCD with my one checking useage, then switched supplier to a company who don't use them and the thing was put away and not missed at all.
