    3,500 people out of work.

obviously nothing whatsoever to do with Brexit.

      Blame the EU.
The trade agreement with Japan (signed earlier this year) means they can import all cars etc from Japan with no import charges !

Honda going back to Japan to build electric cars. Government here cuts green grants for electric vehicles so no major surprise there, just another reason to dislike the Tories.

Not Brexit related at all. Up to 2008 they were selling 105,000 cars a year in the UK. Since then it's generally been about 43,000 according to SMMT data. This closure has massively been on the cards for 10 years because of that. Brexit a convenient scapegoat.

I worked for Honda for over 10 years and left as the 2006 peak was reached - Brexit is merely a final nail in the coffin. Poor product planning, awful EU sales, misguided Japanese management but worst of all losing sight of the customer...

I consulted at Langley Honda HQ for a while just after you. This has been on the cards ever since that time. The marine, power equipment and motorbike sales were all ok, but cars plummeted. Anyone who thinks Brexit is a factor is a whopper. Exactly the same as with JLR (whose sales went the other way over that period), it's just a very convenient scapegoat for things that have been inflight for 10 years.

As factors that might have impacted the decision go, Brexit seems to be fairly low down the list.

Leaving the main market of the factory with no clear intentions on the future trading relationship is likely to have been high on the lists of consideration (particularly when it is looking increasingly likely that Japan itself will have better market access than the UK to the EU the way things are going. And of course Japan thinks it will likely get even better access to the UK market soon).

Closing a factory is always a toxic thing to do for a company and especially a consumer company. Particularly when they still want to sell cars in the UK. Closing it and being honest about the impact of Brexit would be even more toxic (at least to the famous 52%)

I'm sure Brexit will have come into it.

But it sounds to me that it's more to do with their mismanagement of the range and a general desire to make more at home closer to the markets they are most interested in like China.

The factory has apparently been producing in volumes well below its optimum for a long time now.

But that's a new one that companies are now scared to say it's Brexit after many of them have included it almost by default whenever there is any bad news.

Nitrogen dioxide from diesel engines is one of the reasons London's air pollution is 3 times over the legal limit and causes thousands of deaths each year.
