    Predicted crowds in new stadium

Posted by BBC on 14/3/2019, 8:23:01

A lot of ifs, but If we are in the championship and hopefully holding our own in the new stadium, would you expect the crowds to be much over 13k. We are doing superbly this season but managing just about to sell out for home games at 10k.
Obviously we will get more a tier up, but dont want to be rattling around as per Doncaster.

Just having a quick look at the new grounds since 2000 in the Football League (not including the top flight) and it seems a new ground creates a 50% jump in attendences the following season. Only one side, Colchester, saw a decrease. (But their ground is woeful.)

However, a lot of it is to do with the way the club is run and the relationship with the supporters. 2020 have done such a good job with that, for comparison, our average attendance this season is 25% higher than it was during our Championship winning season 2004/5.

Another example is Lincoln City, not entirely sure what has happened there but they've had a remarkable increase from averaging about 3-4k to now getting about 8.5k

Lincoln also do seem to have something pretty good going on. One of the best home supports I've seen for a while though I also thought Bradford were pretty good on Tuesday given the season they are having overall - apart from the drums of course!

If the prices are reasonable I reckon we would sell 10000 season tickets first season

"managing just about to sell out"

We're selling out home matches weeks in advance. I dare say we could be selling tickets for Oxford twice or three times over.

If we were at Power Court right now we'd be filling it.

Gillingham in two days time is not sold out. A couple of hundred still left.

Well yes. A game in two days is not sold out. You cant compare average attendances by looking at the last game of the possible league winning season.

If you want to sit behind a pillar!
Every game would be near sell out in the Championship, except the likes of Rotherham & Wigan perhaps..
It becomes much more attractive for young familes as a whole match day experience. Which quickly would stack up the numbers.

If you look at new grounds there is very often a bounce in home support attendances in the first few seasons. We need to keep the bouncers by offering a day out (inc real ale) and good football. We will do both so don't fret.

What 17.5k. If we are mid to lower I doubt it.

New stadiums will always attract the part time supporters, itís about holding on to them once the novelty has worn off. On top of this in the champions the majority of teams will also sell 2k maybe more as itíll be a new ground to tick off their list. Leaving 15k for the Hatters, not being funny but if the piss stained lot down the road can fill 20k when they were in the championship then we should too.

To be fair they rarely filled it in the Championship. They have only been getting 20K crowds with Premier League football.

I know of 3 Chelsea 'fans' who have had season tickets at Vicarage Road for the last few seasons.

                        Core fans 6000
                        Fans attending often 4000
Pt fans 4000-20000 with various loyalty than can be swayed to attend more
                        Away fans, 500 to 4000 I guess
                        New fans upto 5000

I would say that 18k is about right based on my expert figures, perhaps going upto 20 to 22 k if we manage to pull more fans
