    Leeds city centre

Stayed over in Leeds last night. Surprised at how smart the city centre is. Would love to see 2020 get even more involved in Luton beyond NP and PC if they wanted to. Luton needs people/companies who genuinely care about its development. Too many shoddy builds and companies who just want to turn a quick profit have turned it into a shell of its former self since the 1980s. Would love to see C&R replaced with people who actually want the town itself to flourish.

Iíve said before on here, that when PC is built, that whole Cheapside, Bute Street, Guildford Street area has potential....for a start pedestrianise whatís left of Guildford Street, the area, around Barbers Lane, could quite easily become some sort of open Piaza.......Skippy however needs to get rid of the Berlin Wall for a start.....thatís just a complete monstrosity that greets people off the Train........and while we are at it, pressure should be put on Network Rail to redevelop the Station, which is an absolute disgrace.

network rail should just build a new station directly south of the present one, the main entrance should have direct access onto power court. once that is done, knock the old bugger down.

no chance of that, London clubs where there are railway stations very near to the stadium are closed on matchdays.
who is going to pay for it ? tax payers again ? privatised companies should pay, but wont. Who's land are they going to use ? power court needs all the premises built to make a profit for the stadium build.

I stayed in Bradford and to be fair they had some up market shops in their malls.
These Northern Cities are what are mentioned as the "Northern Powerhouse" let's hope regeneration and transport links are not just electorial bullsh*t.

I think things have begun to improve in that respect.
PC will add to that further.

Leeds has lots of wealthy areas outlying it hence it has nice shops like Harvey Nicks in centre.

I guess if Liton smartened itself up people from outside may visit the centre more.

We need some zero tolerance on street drinkers, aggressive beggars, gangs mooching about, etc or else improvements will be for nowt.

Luton has a fair catchment area itself of wealthy towns really, St Albans, Harpenden etc, plus London 20min via St Pancras. I think the ball is already rolling regarding the regeneration of the town. With NP and PC, the airport expansion with its rail link thing, plus all the other major new builds going on. It could be totally transformed within the next decade. I do think if we created an attractive centre we could get serious day trip footfall from people travelling through the airport. Looking at 30m passengers per yr if the expansion goes ahead.

There's a newish shopping centre there (with John Lewis in it) that is off the scale quality wise. I hate shopping centres (especially The Mall :-)) but that one is worth a look.

I believe Leeds is the major financial centre outside of London.

As mentioned, Luton needs the dregs removing from the streets.

LBC should be grateful for 2020. They now need to join the party and get some projects going. The Dart and general expansion of the airport are great, what's next.

pull down the arndale, sack c&r and rebuild the centre with shops and housing.
