    Mental Health

Posted by Observer on 10/10/2018, 13:27:44

Sad that 4500 people take their own lives in England each year. Approx a quarter of those with mental health issues can wait up to 3 months before a consultation!

Extra funding announced by the government to tackle the issue, but so sad nevertheless.

Extra funding after cutting 8000 mental health staff in the last few years. Total wankers.

Not in the slightest. Quite frankly it stinks.
But whilst the Tories are in power they will just get slated.
If (and sadly there is a chance) Labour get in and it’s still a pile of pooh in two or three years time. They’ll just give it the old ‘we didn’t realise just how bad the Tories left it etc etc.
This country is shagged whoever leads it at the moment and unless BOTH sides can try and be positive (instead of just slagging everything the opposition does), it ain’t getting better any time soon.
As for mental health, ironically I have indeed needed a bit of help in the past ( not looking for sympathy is wasn’t a major issue). I actually have a certificate to say I am sane. Which I’m thinking is more than most on here 😄

Oddly enough, Teresa May today . . .

"The reason we had to do that was because of the state of the public finances and the economy we were left by the Labour government."

Good old Tiddles, bless his soul, was proud of the fact that he had a piece of paper saying he wasn't sane - said it gave him licence to do whatever he wanted!

I think I agree mostly with you about the country being shagged and without wishing to start the old EU guff up again I'm fairly certain we're about to become even more shagged.

And I share your weariness with both parties - but I'd rather we overspent and were able to have even the basic services and care for one another than have this seemingly total heartless, uncaring shower in for another moment. I hate what is happening to the vulnerable, of all ages.

As for the D Abbott jibe, come on, you're better than that, she's no worse (or better) than many more and its a bit tasteless the remorseless picking on her as what the media have established as an easy target, don't you think?

                        Re: Mental Health

Posted by Tasty Geezer on 10/10/2018, 17:07:20, in reply to "Re: Mental Health"

The Abbott jibe wasn’t about her counting. That has indeed been done to death. It was about Labour finding money. I’ll concede that one though (just). I find it strange how the people that blame the oldies for Brexit (saying they won’t be around to see the long term damage), are the same people wanting to overspend to sort out the NHS etc. Which in the long term......!

The real problem is that both parties over the last few decades have totally screwed up the country. So the only way back I’m afraid is to be ruthless in the ‘short’ term. My personal view is that we should realise that we are no longer a major player on the world stage as such. So let’s stop sending troops all over the globe. Giving millions (if not billions) in aid to countries whose government don’t even help their own people. And just until we get back on our feet let’s be a little selfish.

Thing is as a whole we have accepted the Tories deliberately cutting money and services for the most vulnerable members of society, leading to numerous deaths and suicides.

All to save a little bit of money.

You show me the economic stats which indicate we are. Money is coming in on one hand and going straight out of the other. Often from the poorest to the people behind outsourcing, often in inefficiencies and sometimes even, as NaG says, in compensation for ineptitude.

The claims that the country is better off, or saving money in real terms, are such weasel words that I'm amazed even the most blinkered can't see them for what they are.

Now, do you seriously believe them?

Of course there is a lot of truth in what Nag says, but I think the bit about IT systems is wide of the mark. That problem has bedevilled successive governments.
The point I am making is that according to O.N.S. figures the deficit for the year ending March 2018 was the lowest since 2002 - so,yes,I conclude that the Gov. is doing something right.

                                    Because it's all going on
Appeals against wrong rulings on PIP and ESA, which are then overturned, not to mention making people who have been disabled for years and are made to take 'assessments' to see if they're still disabled after another year with Parkinson's or MS or amputation.
                                    Brexit.
Rolling out Universal Credit, and paying through the nose to compensate those who have fallen foul of it and have been left without a penny. Employing 'consultants 'who haven't got a clue.
IT systems which don't work and have to be replaced with another that doesn't work.

Then they got told all of the patients had been phoned and informed, when they explained they hadn't been they got told they were wrong and had been...... nice way to treat someone who was there for that reason....
