Overrated imo, I would have had to wait a week for an issue my private healthcare sorted out for me same day

When your private healthcare cover runs out, you're dependent on the NHS. With private, you get what you've paid for and then you're out.

I really don't like 111 but did you try them before going to A & E and watching football?

A & Es are full of people who don't need to be there to be honest chum.

If you're able to "enjoy" the football, you could probably hang on to see your GP.

The few times Iíve used 111 for my son theyíve ended up sending an ambulance out. Last time I even told them that wasnít necessary but they insisted.

I felt a bit embarrassed to be honest when it arrived.

To be honest, I actually hate them.

They are so risk averse that virtually all their flow charts end in "send ambulance".

A headache is a brain haemorrhage. A spot or rash is meningitis. Unbelievably, upper back pain is a heart attack.

The people you speak to have no medical training.

They were set up supposedly to take pressure off the ambulance service and A & E but it's had the opposite effect.

I leave 80% of their "life threatening" calls at home.

I really, really fucking hate them, as does everyone else I work with.

Thanks for reading. I feel a bit better now.

A call to 111 last January saved my wifes life. she didnt have a rash, but Flu like sypmtoms and had raging head pain. She was found to have bacterial meningitis and was in a coma for 3 days after i called 111. I was actually told by her doctor that i saved her life with that phone call.

I dont feck about at all anymore. I nearly lost my wife and my kids their mother. It was hell but thankfully because of the hard work of the NHS she survived, allbeit with a few permanet after effects. If you feel something is wromg, trust your own feeling.

James, i hope your son is Ok mate.

Bacterial meningitis will normally bring about a very obvious rash, stiff neck, photophobia and a banging headache.

Even without medical training, I would have rung 999, not 111 with those symptoms.

Mind you, eczema can equate to potential meningitis if you work for 111. They are actually risking lives by sending out ambulances completely inappropriately.

I'm glad your wife is okay and that the ambulance actually had a paramedic on it to give Benzyl penicillin.

They should say they donít have any medical training. I gave it and let them send an ambulance as I thought they must have had some medical background other than simply following a flow chart on a computer.

When I phoned 111 at one in the morning complaining of acute stomach pain, they spent ten minutes taking loads of personal details, then told me to take paracetamol and see the doctor in the morning if it hadn't gone away.

We decided to call an ambulance. Turned out my appendix had burst and sepsis was starting. I was operated on within hours. I would never trust 111.

The treatment I received at the Norfolk and Norwich was first rate from the moment I arrived.
