    Gareth Southgate

Posted by Pogue Mahone on 12/7/2018, 8:45:43

I gave up a bit on England what with Roy Hodgson and Allardyce and wotnot. I also sort of just ignored Gareth Southgate as I ignored him as a player.

But I heard on t'wireless yesterday (I think it may have been Henry Winter), talking about how 8 years ago he went round the county F.A's and was in despair at how they operated. Small kids in normal size goals etc..., and the FA's attitude was "well it didn't hurt our brave boys in '66".
He then set out to change attitudes and it seems he's doing some great work behind the scenes, talking and learning from all sports and ignoring all the old bullshit.
    .
What he's achieved with this young team and the way he carries himself is nothing short of astonishing and I love him for all of it.

    Bravo Gareth Southgate and England.

Thanks for listening. Enjoy your day.

Spot on. It's a team that we can be proud of, the first one since the turn of the millennium.

      Bravo.

Gareth Southgate, an FA employee from Watford who is quite admirable.

Maybe it's worth checking hens for teeth!

OK understand a lot of that, he does appear a top bloke dedicated patriotic. But we still lost, ok stayed in the competition longer agreed, one goal up and still lost, despite all the science behind the training etc,a team from a country with fraction of our population beat us.

True. I don't know if experience played into Croatia winning last night. They certainly seemed like they knew what to do.

I'm just glad that this young team did so well in the circumstances.

                  England DNA mate.
                  https://community.thefa.com/england_dna/

Dan Micchiche has played a massive part in developing the philosophy and embedding it within all the County FA's.... its the coaching philosophy that all grassroots coaches are guided to when taking courses (no such thing as badges)

Ive studied Micciche for a few years and hes a pretty ground breaking i his approach... I was gutted when he went to MK but it'll be even more disappointing that hell be judged on that job and not that actual coachihg he does and advocates.

Jones, Micciche, Southgate all have the same outlook and ethos of building for the future and not lookign at immediate fixes and successes.

                  Happy Days.

(PS sOUTHGATE is still from Watford)

Fuck knows mate, I know nowt about football and all that malarkey, I just want Luton and England and Ireland to win and that.

It was more a comment on how I like this new England and what Southgate has done/is doing. And how much I dislike the likes of Hodgson and Allardyce and that lot.

Have I ever mentioned the sheer, piss boiling hatred I have for Alan fucking Pardew?

The way I see it is that Southgate has gone to great lengths to reverse the rot in our national side that started with that overpaid overrated underachiever Erikson. We now have a squad that at least seems proud to wear the shirt. For that he is to be commended.

A sports scientist said on the radio this morning that the Premier League need to bring more homegrown players into their sides instead of relying on foreigners.

Well knock me down with a feather!

Sadly the rot that is the premier league and its money making will not allow restrictions on foreign players to the extent I would like to see.Saw a doco on tv once about man city and united academys scouring for players to take in, none ever played first team, discarded for foreign legion
