    England & the world cup

    Posted by CX2360 on 13/6/2018, 11:13:09

Are people really looking forward to this world cup ?

Listened to comments about, 'this time it will be better etc', but have we not been here before on numerous occasions ?

What makes people think that this could be a more successful competition ?

This'll be a more successful world cup for England because this year getting to the quarter finals will be a good result whereas in Sven's day quarter finals were a failure.

Traditional English manager, young squad, some exciting attacking talent. A lack of hype.

I'm warming to it for the first time in a long time.

Wait til we have 1 bad result and the press turn on Southgate.

Trust you to look on the bright side!

I don't care about the press and their tantrums, there's very little credibility left for most of them.

Quite tame compared to when they used to go for Bobby Robson. Shocking the way they treated him.

Surely the World Cup is about so much more than England for any actual football fan?

The face-paint brigade will lose interest once England are out in a couple of weeks and the rest of us can get on with enjoying the football.

I take it that you don't have an Engerland flag flying from your bedroom window, with Fat Les blasting out 'vindaloo' then !

less expectations and no hype about this is England's year. I think England will get to a Q/F with a rested kane, England always has a chance.

But the no hype is now turning into hype about there being no expectation, perhaps England could do well after all.

But at least it's not a frenzy like when Sven totally underachieved with the Golden Generation aside from that night in Germany.

Agree with that. Our strength seems to be that there are no prima donnas in the team.

It does make this group of players more likeable than previously but it's not exactly a convincing argument for doing well.

I expect us to get 4 points in the group and then progress on goal difference. Out in the first knock-out round. And that's ok since we have a young squad who will get better over the coming years.

Sure Venables or Hoddle could have achieved more with that group - Keegan and Sven were rubbish choices.

exactly the hype around the apparent golden generation was a joke and I think most England fans would be happy with a Q/F spot. I don't know if over there they have all the st George's flags everywhere yet but when I lived in luton it was all about just a day on the lash.

There were complaints on here that those were Nathan's tactics in his first six months
