Well the immigration policy as open door means everywhere will become housing, you can't add 1million people to the UK population every 2 or 3 years centred mainly around the south east of England and not have loss of green space. Conversions of brownfield and under used pubs into homes of multiple occupation etc.

Funny how the Labour / Green Party types are the first to cry about new roads, new housing developments and loss of parks and greenery, but the first crying out for more immigration to the UK.

This is not anything against immigration, just facts as the population rises to 70-80million, the need for housing, the financial gains to be had from building, buying and renting out housing, just expands.

If Brexit can take the immigration number to the 10's of thousands per year instead of half a million, then the strain on housing can become manageable, perhaps the numbers homeless can start to go down, which is in my opinion is a national embarrassment.

The amount of England that is actually built on is 6%. Absolutely no need to build on football pitches, especially at a club at the heart of its community like Barton Rovers.

Can you point me to where either the Greens or Labour want more immigration? Perhaps other than to properly staff the NHS.

Basically let anyone in... Blair admitted he open the borders, and we all know who the immigrants decide in general to vote for Labour.

It may be a nice thing for some cases, but if you don't build and concrete over the countryside, brownfield, and upwards in the city's, then we get a homeless problem, huge waiting list for those on the bottom of the property ladder, house prices becoming impossible for the current generation of Brits and even worse for the next generation. More traffic, more strain on the NHS, more strain on council services.

We do need immigration, but it's got to be controlled.

nice statistic, now how much of the remaining 94% can be built on, exmoor, dartmoor, derby dales, yorkshire moors the pennines even dunstable downs, just a few places where you cannot build economically. i know lets keep building on fertile productive farmland, if you've got a house who needs food.
you do realise that some years ago bedfordshire county council neglected to submit to central government their housing build quota so central government gave us one so we now have to build far more housing than is suitable for the county, there won't be a village in the county that will not be affected, i feel sorry for barton.
i've always said, if you don't want your surroundings to be ruined by over building make sure you live next door to a councilor.

Yeah when you drive from Lincoln down the A15 to Peterborough.....acres upon acres of flat uninteresting farmland.....Iím sure you could build thousands of houses in that area, without upsetting the environment......where they would all work, thatís another subject.....but cramming everything in down here is not the answer.....

The problem is that central government pass this on to the the local councils, and give them a house building quota. To be fair to Central Beds they are planning some new villages away from Luton, but they see (as well as North Herts DC) that filling in the gaps around Luton as part of the solution, passing on the infrastructure problems to Luton itself. All that land between the new A505 and north Luton will become housing, as well as the "Bushwood" site towards Caddington. As well as between Wigmore and Lilley Bottom. So how long before Barton is actually joined to Streatley? And then incorporated in to Luton?

And I suspect that the Tory Central Beds Council see Barton as a scummy Luton overspill area, so it's a decent solution for them.

                            That's a shame then.

Down here the decline in the use of local pitches even over the past few years is quite marked.

I suspect the council will start pulling back on them if things don't change and who can blame them if they are provided but not used?
