I met a very interesting ex pro footballer Andy Blair, he was a member of The Villa European cup winning team. We got on very well and in time I got to tell him about my support for Luton over the last 62 years. He told me that he was the first person to score a hat-trick of penalties when playing for Sheffield against Luton in 1984. He has a son , who in his own words when playing for York, scored the winning offside goal against the town at Wembley 2012. He also broke his ankle at Luton whilst watching his son play! He fell down the steps in the main stand!

I was at that League Cup midweek tie 1984 at Hillsborough. Honestly, all three penalties were dodgy as ####! We lost 4-2 and the man in black was called Fitzharris..... c**t of a Ref.

Steve Elliott scored our 2 goals they were his 5th,6th and last for LTFC in 15 apps, inc 3 coming on as sub.

Apparently, his other son died last year from a brain tumour. The son was married to an actress who has been in Byker Grove, Waterloo Road, The Bill and Casualty.

I was there - it was a League Cup tie. He did score a hat trick of penalties but he wasn't the first to do it. Alan Slough did it for Peterborough against Chester - he finished on the losing side (4-3). Not sure but I think that he was the first one to do it.

I was at that game in 1984, 4th round of the League Cup at a foggy Hillsborough. Notable not only for Blair's hat trick - and I seem to recall that a couple of the penalties were soft to say the least - but also for the bizarre sight of Mickey Droy, on loan to us from Chelsea, in what looked like a child's replica shirt on his giant frame. Vince Hilaire's last game for us too - like most, I had massively high hopes about him but it simply didn't work for him with us. A fantastically talented player. Steve Elliott (sp?) scored our two goals in an unlucky 4-2 defeat - soon to also be gone, replaced by birthday boy Mick Harford. He did pretty well for us!!!

I have a vague feeling that that was the first time I saw Keith from Liverpool, but that may have been another occasion at Hillsborough.

Interesting that he (I take it?) recognised that Matty Blair's goal was offside. Like everyone else apart from the officials.

The broken ankle may have been karma after all that!!

I meant his dad...3 soft pens and a son who scored a key offside goal. At that point I hadn't read of his sad loss of another son, otherwise I certainly wouldn't have written it.

It's okay. I'm not easily offended

It's no wonder we have a bit of a reputation as a club though. Even our resident vicar enjoys a bit of football violence.

Think Mathews was playing for Stoke still, he was about 43. I certainly saw him play at KR in red and white stripes. He really should have hung his boots up earlier, same as Gordon Turner.

He scored against us at Stoke in the last game of 1962/63 which won them promotion. We didn't play them again after that until 1974/75. I think that he may have played a reserve game at KR after that.

I think that a reserve game is what I read about at some point...not sure of that, but relatively confident that his last away appearance was at KR according to some account.
