    Overview

The back line looked a lot more agile and composed last night and showed a better understanding as a unit. Rea showed that he has a very good base level to develope into a very decent player for us. Both Potts and Stacey chose when to get forward well. Pelly wanted it more as the game went on but got caught a few times well out of position. Hylton (I will try to explain this as best I can for those who seem to fail to understand it) Danny Hylton will run all day long for you and put every effort in for the shirt he wears. He missed a whole preseason this year. Average preseason is around 5 weeks. Players usually need preseason plus a couple of true fixtures to get up to scratch. Put these 2 factors together and you'll understand why he looks off the pace and the standard we are used to seeing from him. McCormack showed his years of experience at a higher level, picked up smart positions, fought for everything, and lead by example (berry and pelly could pick up a lot from him). Jones set the team out to get the result last night and maybe needs to use this tactic at times as the season progresses. Onwards and upwards.

      Top post and bang on.

I noticed we were a bit more direct initially (so as not to allow them to get an early foothold) and played with a little more width (with Pelly started on the right).

I also got frustrated by numpties who constantly moaned at us playing at the back when it was the best way to draw PV out (who were intent on sitting behind the ball). It didn't work brilliantly last night but they didn't offer a threat in any way.

All good tactics in my view.

        Spot on.

I can't understand why Hylton, who is clearly not yet match fit and definitely missing sharpness, wasn't taken off after 70-80 minutes though. Surely 3 games in a week isn't going to help fitness when he's not had the pre-season?!

Nathan seems very averse to making substitutions earlier than 80 minutes - wonder which coaching manual advises that!

Because getting 90 minutes in the bank will get him fitter quicker.
