    Simple Question

Does the Diamond make us pump it Long...?

It seems to me that the Diamond seems to compress everything , so that players like Berry end up passing 2 yards to the next player..

    Surely NJ can see this...?

When we did get it wide , we caused them trouble.

Did Hylton or Collins win a single ball that was pumped long last night?

we could have tried dropping of our self last night to see if that drew them out more, it probably wouldn't off. More movement off the ball might have let us unlock them but teams that dont wont to lose can be stubborn buggers. we got the points in the kind of game we have struggled, yes we will need to pick it but against better teams there will be more space for us to go to work and man for man we should be able to beat most teams with our first eleven.

        Yes.

It congests the space, and we have no outlet or width. This means that we end up passing the ball sideways in a very small area, while waiting for the full backs to get forward.

Invariably this ends up meaning we have to pass the ball backwards to retain possession, eventually back to Stech, followed by a punt forward and a 50/50 chance of retaining possession.

I'm all for possession football but this seems to be repeated on a regular basis and everyone except Jones sees why. But then, I don't have all the coaching badges so what do I know...

the diamond does congest the central area's, the width we crave for should be supplied by the 2 full backs. It looks like Stacey is going to be able to get up and down and get the ball in, Potts who is turning into a very good footballer i am not sure he will be able to supply the crosses we need.

I would like to see us get further up the pitch before getting our crosses in. The times we do it often looks like something is close to happening but I often think the crosses come in from areas where we are not as effective.

Personally I thought some of our better passing came up the middle last night and we were close to getting away a few times.

Indeed, a couple of very tight (but probably correct) offside decision stopped two one on ones and of course the first goal came from pressure through the middle.

This is how Football used to be played when I were a lad. We're not playing Footbally like that. We're not winning 10-0 every game.

Solution, play Football like it were played when I were a lad and we'd win every game 10-0.

To be completely fair, it means I'm immune from confirmation bias.

I could write a convincing argument for us playing 3-4-3 (the Chelsea diamond, to you) and it's only because it's widely known that I don't get to as many games as I'd like that half the divs on here wouldn't lap it up. I'd be willing to bet that some would go to games with it in the back on their mind and come back on here with preconceptions realised and argue that it's the way forward. If, you know, I hadn't just told everyone.

                  Cheers, Jim

Diamond in the premier OK. In 4th div no. Go back to basics and 442. Enough already.

How many teams in Division 4 play an orthodox 4-4-2?

Genuine question, it may just as easily bite me in the backside if they all do. It will have to be pretty convincing, though. Maybe a bit of corroborating evidence. While I may not be able to refute a simple list of every other team in the Division, nor will I believe it.

                    Cheers, Jim

I can't think of many that employ the diamond carte blanc. The system alienates Collins and Hylton and you could see their frustration last night. Collins looked very dejected when subbed.
