This tour was a real behind the scenes look at Kenilworth Road seeing how times have changed and how completely inadequate the stadium and facilities are for today's professional game at any level let alone in the higher echelons of the football pyramid. What the likes of Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool etc. must have made of it heaven knows! Actually we all know because Roger explained that in the PL most away teams stayed over at Luton Hoo and got changed there using their facilities as the away changing room is small and, lets say, basic. Apparently when we played Chelsea in the fa cup a season or so before we got to PL Chelsea officially complained to the fa about our facilities for away teams!
Anyway, seeing the changing rooms, the old historic baths was only part of the thing.
We went into the Eric Morecambe suite, boardroom (Joe Payne lounge) with its pitch views, trophy room, and the various other rooms. All the corridors in this rabbit warren of a building, lined with pictures and players shirts of famous occasions over the decades. Loads to see and helps you get a bigger picture of the life of the club when you see the family room for example, for the WAGS and kids. Apparently the stadium is pretty deserted during the week as the club has some office space down at the Brache. However we went into the press room where MB delivers his interviews.
The stadium itself was actually less interesting as I know it very well anyway but it was good going up on the balcony above the Bobbers and into the Gary Lineker room where Tom Lockyer's flag is located.
For someone who doesn't really know or understand the workings of a football club this tour gives an excellent insider insight. If you haven't been behind the scenes then I highly recommended this tour.
Huge thank you to Roger and the whole team who operate Hatters Heritage and the tour.
Live justly, love mercy, perpetuate generosity, walk humbly.
