If you want pleasure beach, surrounded by thousands of people spending money on things they don't really want to impress the people they don't really like, then your best bet is a Southend or a Blackpool type of location.
If you want a quiet secluded location for family times then somewhere like Church Bay in Anglesey might fit your bill. It has a cafe too and toilets too. Perranuthnoe beach near Marazion in Cornwall is great for that too - it also has larger waves from the swell if you like surfing/bodybording.
Finally, if you want somewhere really remote there's a lovely spot near the village of Llanfaethlu just south of Church Bay. We spent a whole day there last summer and were the only people present. You can watch the ferries come in and out of Holyhead too and there maybe some training flights from RAF Valley too if you're lucky.
