: I wanted to share some of my thoughts on why
: the loincloth has so much appeal.
: I have appreciated cultures where wearing a
: loincloth is the norm for some time now. But
: it does beg the question, why? What's the
: big deal?
: On one hand it is aesthetically pleasing,
: but a person might accuse me of just having
: a kinky fetish. I searched my conscience on
: this and I realized that there is a reason
: to appreciate the loincloth besides just
: idle appeal.
: For a long time when I saw in history books,
: novels, or movies a culture that accepted
: loincloths as a norm I always felt a bit
: envious. I don't think for those cultures
: it was a matter of wanting to be half naked
: or immodesty. I suspect in such cultures
: they didn't understand the concept of being
: half naked.
: So this is what I concluded.
: My inner desire to wear a loincloth is
: connected to a desire live in a society or
: live in a way where I didn't have to be
: afraid of being vulnerable around others.
: Modern clothing is in part a defense
: mechanism. We wear clothing because we want
: to feel protected. Because we're insecure.
: At least I am. So when I see someone whose
: basic clothing is a loincloth I recognize
: he's more secure than myself and isn't
: afraid of vulnerability or being hurt. He's
: not afraid of what others think of him.
: In reality we don't want to have to live in
: a world where we're always having to be
: defensive and we want to be allowed to be
: vulnerable with others. Also on top of all
: that, to wear a loincloth used to not
: necessarily mean immodesty. In many respects
: it infers humility. Or at least can in the
: right context.
: It's humbling since many people think
: dressing as such looks embarrassing and
: foolish. I guess it does in a way but maybe
: that's why I was drawn to it. A society
: where the loincloth is accepted seems more
: approachable and friendly.
