I'm away in Spain for Christmas and New Year. Yesterday I did a bus tour to Valencia. I just couldn't help but think how different things are in Spain. It brought into sharp focus, how short sighted and uncaring the proposal to decimate Rimrose Valley is. Years ago, the river which ran through the heart of Valencia flooded and several people lost their lives. So, to make sure it never happened again, they decided to move the river! The old river bed was then transformed into an area of free public amenities. As the bus drove beside it for a while, there were exercise areas, football pitches, children's playgrounds, beautiful parks, tropical gardens, cycle tracks and more. What vision. What sense. When did we stop putting people first. Also, all over the city, beautiful nativity scenes Christmas trees and decorations. Not a fence or security measure in sight. Maybe this reflects upon how bad/sad our society has become. I really feel there is much to learn from all this in the area of cause and effect. It seems here, and I know it's only a snapshot observation, but, if the people here feel valued, they value what they have.
When I was working the river overflowed here in Cardiff,I know one lady whose celler was flooded, and a second lady who had to be moved to a little cottage,It was the last year we were in the north for Christmas 1978,My brother said it was on TV would our house be ok ,being on the high part of Cardiff the house was fine,I believe the bed the river was made deeper,
Absolutely correct Jean. I am afraid we are now living in another Country from the one we all grew up in. Too much Me, Me, attitude and beggar anyone else. And then of course, hate to mention it, but we are told that we must consider all races and we may upset them if we try to remember things such as the Nativity. And it is our Country I thought. Apologies if I have upset anyone. Not intended. Enjoy the rest of your time in Spain, Jean. Happy New Year to you and all our readers.
