Besides deaths from war wounds and other ailments, deaths also occurred there from the 'Spanish Flu' pandemic of 1918/19 from an outbreak at Litherland Camp.
It was also used for medical examinations of men claiming War Pensions.
Other dedicated naval/military hospitals in the area were at Seaforth, Bootle, Breezehill, Waterloo, Blundellsands, Stanley Hospital, and a Canadian Military Hospital at Kirkdale.
