Posted by Ann Not one to shy away from a discussion, I will gladly weigh in here with my opinion. First, I've read the Narnia series twice. It's a good series. Second, I began with Rodney's opinion that HP was simply schlock when the books started coming out. Mine is a case of "if it's popular, it's the last thing I want to spend my time reading." I'm a bit of a contrarian. All the hype around Potter is just that -- hype -- exaggerated PR to separate people from their money and funnel it into the Potter corporation. However, my 12 year old daughter devoured them like no other books. At times through the 1500 pages we would read out loud to each other. It was very strange to get little glimpses into this world. Still, I didn't read them. The movie came out, and one reviewer panned it because it was "too close to the book." We went to see it. Members of my classic book club (Rodney, remember Bobbi?) have been reading and singing the praises of Potter since it first came out. A couple of them pre-order the next book. Still, I didn't read it. Then, on the day after Thanksgiving, desperate for a book (and of course I couldn't find one) I raided my daughters bookcase and found Harry. Now I'm on book four. In my opinion, it's better than Narnia. Rodney, read the book before you pronouce that the characters are one-dimensional. Just like life, there is more to these books than meets the eye. Don't fall into the trap of judging a book by the hype. --Ann
