Pre 1913 No. 2 12 gauge

I am looking at this 12 gauge but question the markings on the rib extension. It reads "Hunter Arms Co. Makers Fulton, NY". The Makers Fulton, NY is like squished in to make it fit. Anyone ever see this?[img]DSC_1015__05465.1511288897.1280.1280[/img]

Al, I am not sure that I have ever seen the word "Makers" put on a Grade 2 steel barrel gun. Are they Crown Steel? I'll have to look at a few guns and my books when I get home. Best, Mike

Out of curiosity I looked at my three Gr. 2 guns-- a 1912 Gr 2 20 ga. two barrel set, a 1907 2E 16 ga, and a 1898 2E 12. None have the word "Makers" on the ribs, and the two barrel set has Fulton, N.Y on a second line.

I looked at my grade 2 two barrel set one barrel is missing the makers and the othe barrel does not have any maker mark, both barrels are Damascus.

Dick, If your 2 barrel set has 2 lines, it should be a featherweight gun. Now I am anxious to see what my 8 gauge has on the rib. I don't think I have paid too much attention to that one.

From this web page under "grades" and pre 1913 and No. 2 it says the word maker is what ir should say.

Depends on the date of manufacture Al.
This is an 1897 No. 3; no precious metal rib inlay, but with "Maker"
