scroll to the right and there are more pics. I dont know why it loaded that way. It is a damascus barrel so a non-shooter. The serial number is in the pics. #020860. Thanks. I will also post the pics of my nickel receiver LC as an added treat.

Perry, your gun is a L.C. Smith Maker, Syracuse, N.Y. That should be written on the top of the barrels. Date would be 1887. It looks to be a 10 ga. with the breech balls that close to the locks. Grade/Quality looks to me like a Quality 3. Barrels were good Damascus and should be either 30" or 32" long. Checkering should be 24 lines per inch. Nice looking example of a Syracuse gun, getting harder and harder to find in nice condition like this one. Good luck with it.

Perry, just saw your last post after I posted mine. The barrel wall thickness on these guns is very thick. I would have them checked. If it is a 10 ga. the bores should be .775-.785. If they are honed some and are slightly bigger, I personally would still should low pressure, low velocity shells in it. RST makes ones for vintage guns. If you reload or know someone that does, have them load to 7,000 psi and under and 1150 fps.and under. You could also use Gage Mates and shoot 12 ga.

Perry, like most things for sale, condition is everything. From what I can see, $1000-$1800 + on a good day.

Are the barrels still the original length ??? Are there any dents or bulges in the barrels ??? What gauge is this LCS shotgun ?? Get a 12 gauge shell and see if it fits tight or a little loose in the chamber. This LCS is a roller check gun. I personally like roller check guns very much. Good Shooting To You, Jent

I have a quality 3 10 ga and some of the engraving is diffrent this has. One thing is my trigger guard has a dogs head engraved on it

Jimmy, the pictures of the ones I have showing the trigger guard also have a dogs head. The side plates looked to have more engraving than a Quality 2 does. Very hard to tell by pictures, and might be hard to tell in hand also.

I have to agree with you David, mine has a round "sun" looking piece of engraving on the side plates in addition to the engraving on this gun. It looks like a higher grade than a quality 2 but not as much as a quality 3

Looking at the engraving on my #2 vs this #? I notice that there is more engraving on the lock plate on this gun and that there is some marks/engraving on the screw head. But my #2 has more engraving on the frame forward of the lock plates. My number also (extractor gun) has an engraved metal piece on the forearm vice dogshead plastic insert.

Alan, if your serial number is in the 30,000 or above range, your gun is a Fulton gun. The dogs-head escutcheon is on them not the Syracuse guns. I have seen some that look like a acute double triangle on the for-end also. All Syracuse guns had engraved screws, and the side plate connecting screw has a rounded head compared to the later Fulton ones that were flat. (very early Fulton guns also had rounded screw heads)
