Let's hope we don't have to start going to Face Book to read L.C. Smith messages. As far as I'm concerned, if people don't want to use our web site then we don't need them. Harsh? Yes...but one web page is enough. Especially with all the questionable stuff we hear about Face Book. I for one will not go there again. Use our web site or move on.....Carl Beers

Harsh? Yes. And foolish. The pages work in concert with each other, not against one another. The FB page only increases the footprint of the LCSCA, especially with younger people. Whether we like it or not, they are the future of this association, and the sport of shooting these guns. Is asking people to walk on out the door really what we want to do?

The fact that the post was by "LCSCA" amd the board administrator tells me that Jim Stubbendieck had a hand in this posting. He is also the one with the records that are referenced. Why should I have to go to another site, and join up to see a post about LC Smith guns? I avoid social media sites because I see so many problems associated with them.

It is your right to avoid any site you desire. But the attitude expressed in "Use our web site or move on" is shortsighted at best, and serves no useful purpose. It is not my intent to be a cheerleader for Facebook, but it seems to me that phrases like "we hear" or "I see" are based more on fear than first hand knowledge. Facebook can serve this organization in a lot of ways, especially in getting it's name, potentially, before millions of people. The website alone cannot and will not do that. To illustrate, every time someone "likes" the page or "shares" a post, that will end up on all of their friends newsfeed. I have 268 friends on FB, so that means 268 people will see that. Now multiply that times the number of "likes" there have already been on our FB page (48), and you will begin to see the potential for growth in this organization. I thought that is what we all desired. Maybe not. That is how the world works, whether we like it or not. If you don't want to participate, that is fine. But why criticize Mr. Stubbendieck and others who desire to make the LCSCA more visible and accessible?

You don't have to join Facebook to be able to view the information. A link was provided to go to another web page just like links are often times provided to go other pages within our website. If you want to "Like" or post comments on the Facebook page, yeah, you do have do have to sign up.

I've got to agree, these social networking sites are where it's at these days. If you all want the group to grow and attract younger members this is where you need to be. I'm pretty old school and even I have a FaceBook account. I use it for work, for keeping track of friends, all sorts of things. Being online has it dangers, no matter what site you use. Destry

just throwing in my .02¢ Facebook (social networking) is neither the scourge nor the best thing ever, but like having a "party line", then your own phone line, Ham radio, CB radio, pager, cell phone, it's just communication. It will be different soon enough if you last long enough to see it happen. I am sure I am not part of the older fine gentlemen group here, but I sure hope I'm not the youngest (I'm 47). put the word out - I'm sure glad I found this place. Will be sending in membership soon.

NOBODY is asking you to do Facebook. You and others are totally missing the point. The LCSCA having a Facebook page doesn't affect you at all if you choose not to use it or read the posts (which, as someone has already pointed out, you can read without joining Facebook).

Jim: the information posted on the Facebook site is a scan of the ledger page for the gun in question. It is a 12 ga, non-ejector 00 grade, finished on July 6, 1906. The barrel length column says "33", so no one is blowing smoke.

As others have said, all you need to do is to click on the Facebook link (below) to view the page. No magic is required, nor will you be enslaved by Mark Zuckerberg or any of his employees at Facebook. You will note that most of the material on the Facebook page is similar (although it is usually abbreviated) to that on the website. One of the purposes of the organiztion is to "stimulate and educate members and the public in their knowledge of the history and production of the L.C. Smith shotgun." The LCSCA Facebook page was created to reach a different group of people (often younger). The future of the organization rest with this group of individuals, and we are trying to build their interest. The purpose of the original post was to draw visitors to the Forum to the Facebook page. I knew that some would not like it, but it worked. Sixty-seven people have looked at the "33-inch barrels" post. Please try viewing the page. We are not trying to add controversy. Instead, we are trying to do a better job of moving the organization into the 21st century. THIS IS AN EARLY WARNING Websites should not stay unchanged. Unchanged websites become stagnant and difficult to manage. New techniques of placing information onto the website and other features are constantly being developed. Most are not aware, but we make numerous additions/changes on a weekly basis. However, the "experts" say that a website should be redesigned every two years. I am not one to make changes for the sake of making changes, but the website is far past due for a revision. I do not know what the revision will look like, but we will do everything that we can to continue to make it user friendly. Our goal is to redesign the site before the first of the year.

People seem to be more interested in Facebook that talking about great guns, seems alot of people need to get off computer and go to work. I had girlfriends kids over this weekend, they stayed on that damn phone all the time, texting and whatever they do. We were eating dinner and they kept messing with their phones, I told them to turn off thase damn phones or leave, They left. Damn hippies.
