I finally got my stirrup that I have been looking for, for quite some time. Now need a little advice, on how to put the stirrup into the tumbler. Is there a trick to that? Any help is appreciated.
John, it has been awhile, but looking at some of my pictures, the hammer has to be off because attaching the stirrup to the tumbler is on the back-side. Once that is on then you can partially install the tumbler and then put the long leg of the mainspring on the stirrup. Then you have to compress the mainspring and put it in it's milled out area so that the short leg is against the block. You then should be able to put the screws into the bridle to secure everything.
Just make sure you put the stirrup going the right way or else you will not be able to cock the gun and possible break the stirrup.
Thanks David, I finally got it to go into the bridle, but must have it in bass akwards as it won't cock. The stirrup was a little bent and buggered up, but I'll get it eventually....And Then. Bang, just like when it was new, 127 years ago.
