After experiencing this to varying degrees 3 times now (3 different guns) I thought that I would say why this occurred on these guns and how I fixed them. The problem occurred, in my opinion, where someone had messed with the end of the sear where it engages the hammer. Obviously attempting to lower the trigger pull. What then happens is that the sear is shortened so that the trigger engages the sear before it is stopped by the safety. My fix was to disassemble the sideplate and bend the sear so that the trigger engaged the safety first. In all cases the fix was just perfect. You must be very careful in attempting to bend the sear and be sure that you go in the right direction as it is tempered and very difficult to bend and you must be sure that you only move it a few thousandths at a time while measuring your progress. On 2 of the guns, the trigger didn't pull through with the safety on, however, when you took the safety off after pulling the trigger with it on, the gun fired as soon as you touched the trigger which isn't a safe condition.
Also if the top tang to trigger plate housing is one turn too tight, that will happen. You are pulling the trigger housing closer to the sears. This can also be a problem when the stock is taken off and replaced, tightening this screw one turn too much and you will not get the side plates on because the sear is now hitting the trigger plate
Thanks, I'll check that on those guns, but in all cases, it was apparent that the sears had been messed with. They all work perfectly now. The trigger wont't move when the gun is cocked and the safety is on and pulls fine when released.
