Hello everybody. I have a Smith Skeet Premier that I love to shoot both dove and obviously ...skeet. I have developed an ejector problem in the right barrel where at times, it seems to bind the hull and will not eject. It is a hit ot a miss. Things I have performed / checked. I have polished shell breach to remove any imperfections that may be grabbing the brass. I have checked wear and alignment on ejector push rods including lightly polishing ejector rod. When I disslodge the hull, the majority of the time it pops right out with no "felt" binding issue. My theory is that with the slight expansion of some brass hulls, the OE springs just do not have enough rate left to disslodge and kick them out. Another indicator is that the times it does eject, it does seems "soft" compare to other early doubles I own. So after this, does my theory seem logical A... and B... does anyone have any contacts for quality replacment springs? Thanks in advance!

Tony, it is quite possible the spring is broken. Because it is a coil spring it will still have some life to it. I don't believe any of the things you did will help. All of the "action" is in the for-end, and if there is a problem with one of the springs, the ejector kicker will not function properly.
In the local hardware store, they had a large selection of springs mounted on a board. I took one from an ejector gun and found the exact replacement according to the prints from Brophy's book "Plans and Specifications of the L.C. Smith Shotgun".
Also make sure to check that the screws on the ejector guide block are tight.

David, I greatly appreciate your response. The spring(s) are not broken and I have had them out of the gun. The screws on the guide block are tight as well. Oddly enough, if I remember correctly, the last time I had them out I could even notably feel a difference between the left and right spring. (at that time I should have swapped to apposing bbl to see if the issue followed the swap) I will check locally and see what I can find. Thanks again!

If you have trouble finding them, let me know.

Toni, If you are shooting reloads, make sure the shells are not binding in the chambers. Many of my Smiths only reliably eject new or re-sized brass.

This occours both with reloaded and new... actually my reloaded brass seems to do a little better but i have not gone as far as micing the reloaded brass from my Ponsness loader either and comparing to a new load.
