Hello Tim, and welcome to the forum. Lots of folks use them, and the best I've seen are the ones produced by Galco. The are constructed of heavy reddish brown leather with extra heavy velcro. They come in several sizes to fit different width butt-stocks, and I believe they look as period correct as any slip-on pad could. If memory serves, they may even sell a model that has a few different inserts to adjust LOP. Good luck, John

If you want something that's "period correct" you're going to have to look for something vintage more than likely. Redhead made a rubber slip on pad in those days, and Jostam plus some other companies made a leather lace on recoil pad. Seems like I've seen some lace on pads that were of more modern manufacture but I don't know the source.

Re: Slip on Recoil Pad for 1949 LC Smith Side by Side
I have purchased several slip on leather pads from England for less than $20/ea. on Ebay. (ie; item 251029839803). They look great on older guns and do not have the velco latch that catches on your clothing. They increase LOP about 1". Easy on and off to switch from gun to gun. They come in two sizes, light brown (small) dark brown (large). I have also purchased some sheet sorbethane on Ebay, cut it to fit inside the pad to increase LOP further, works great.
