"In the past there were two 5 stand fields. One of the fields was used for qualification the other for practice. Will both of the fields now be used for the qualification on Friday and Saturday, or will there be a third field for practice?" |
Terry: In response to your question, the Deep River facility is not large enough to allow for a 3rd 5-stand field; so you are correct in that the 5-stand field used for practice last year will be part of our Event One qualifying venue for 2012. Both 5-stands will be open for practice rounds on Thursday for those who arrive early; although traps on both fields will be reset prior to the commencement of Event One.
No sour grapes on my part Friend; only a small expression of frustration over what was obviously intended to be a disparaging comment. But if anyone can "take the heat", that individual would be me. I am, in fact, still in that "Kitchen"; and as the "chief cook", I dish out as much as I take and will continue do go in a gentlemanly manner. I also suggest you double check my response to your original post; I never asked you to chair the event, I simply stated that I would gladly step aside if you, or anyone else, wished to volunteer to assume that responsibility. In that regard you certainly seem to be well qualified; given that you are a competitive shooter, and shoot a lot. And although our old double barrels may get a little heated when lots of birds are in the air, I've never melted the solder in my rib joints; and seriously doubt that any of our shooters will develop blisters on the fingers of their lead hand during Event One. But just to make sure that all shooter concerns are properly addressed, I will personally place 5-gallon buckets of water at each 5-stand specifically designated for cooling over-heated barrels. And in your honor, each bucket will be labeled "Dr. Deming's Barrel Dunk".
And for the members who have wasted their valuable time reading mine and Dr. Deming's banter; please be advised that 1) we have no "Dr. Deming" on our membership role; and 2) this will be my last comment to any further Dr. Deming remarks, as they are obviously intended to create problems. But I do wish to expand member understanding of the Challenge Event to a small degree; so allow me to close with these final remarks. The LC vs Parker Challenge is without question the finest, and best supported event of its type yet devised. But the success of the LC Smith vs. Parker Parker Challenge Event didn't just happen; it has been successful because a lot of people who have received no credit for their efforts have invested a lots of their personal time and treasure to make this event successful. These unnamed individuals seek no recognition, their reward has been, and remains the opportunity this event generates in bringing people of like interests together, the fellowship with new and old friends, seeing the smiles on the faces of our members as they enjoy the event, and the kind words of appreciation expressed by attendees. But the real measure of success for the Challenge Event, and the one element of the event that is the most gratifying to those of us putting the Event together, has been the tremendous member response. No event can exist without support; and I am continually humbled by the numbers of attendees, and by the enthusiasm we have received for the Challenge Event by members of both organizations. And for that support, I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. Tom
