Steve, I had the pleasure of reading your story today and it was outstanding and heart warming. I was very emotional afterward and when I got home had to give my old dog a big hug. It was great to hear about the L.C. premier, but the rest of the story was even better. I recommend this to all. Best wishes, David R

Steve, as already stated, very nice story and have heard of similar instances where the master had passed and the dog was never the same. Is Tom Nash a friend or a fictitious person? My wife read it and believes he is real. I was stationed at Fort Gordon for AIT in early 1966, so can relate to it. Used to hear quail calling near our barracks.

Steve, read the mag on a recent flight, and your story brought tears to my eyes, several times. Glad you posted so I can tell you personally that it was a fine story and told well. I too was wondering if it was fact or fiction, and also was hoping for a picture of the gun. The story line would make for a fine country tune.

Hi Folks, I am very happy to see that you continue to send complimentary messages about "The Hurried Gift." I am flattered to see that it has generated so many questions about the characters and about Augusta. However, a writer can never explain a story, because it must mean many different things to people with widely varied backgrounds. Just know that with your questions you have justified the act of writing it. I hope that through your recommendation it will continue to be shared. Steve

Steve, I happened to read your story this morning before I saw this thread. It brought a lump to my throat and a tear to my eye as I reached down to scratch my 14 year old lab's ears after finishing it. We're very close to a similar end, but in our case I'll be playing the role of the setter in your story.
