Date of manufacture help???

I don't know what to make of this serial number? It is an old style gun with the "shaped" side plates, and window safety, damascus barrels. Could anyone give me some insight?

I will get some more pics up. I guess from what I can tell it is a 1922. I was thinking it had to be pre-13 with the window safety, o frame and damascus barrels.

I Thought that it had to be pre-13, but the number doesn't seem to fit? I just bought it sight unseen, and haven't even picked it up yet, just wondering what I bought.

I have a LC Smith Ideal grade 20 GA with auto ejecters. It's ser. no. is FWS84691.
Can you please date it & give me any other details about it?

John, with the FW S prefix it would be from after 1946. You have one too many numbers in your serial number.
The FW means it is on a Featherweight frame, and is now the only frame style made. The "S" is the new designation that the new L.C. Smith Gun Company, a subsidiary of Marlin Firearms Co. used when they started the serial numbers over again.

The Ideal Grade was the next lowest grade made. Some had nice looking wood and it was the lowest grade to have engraving. In a 20 gauge with ejectors, it is a nice gun and good luck with it.

Research Letters

Requesting a research letter is the best way to obtain all of the information recorded about your L.C. Smith made from 1890 to 1950 - icluding the Fulton, Hunter Special, Ranger, and single barrel trap guns.

1921 Arnold, and please be aware that the chambers were originally 2 1/2". Lots of information in the FAQs on the Home Page.
