They are reliable as long as they work (like anything else). The trouble is there are no parts available for them. The problem I see with them is the ejector sear gets worn, and doesn't eject them as strongly and then fails. Or the spring that performs double duty on the "J" spring and ejectors is weak or broken like this one was. Made new one out of hack saw blade. The clam shell works just like the banjo release, roll and pull the forend off. It's quite possible that someone had it apart and the spring loaded part is not fitting into the slide on the fore end iron.
